5. Song: Army of Me , Artist: Liars , Album: Stereogum Presents... Enjoyed: A Tribute To Björk's Post (Stereogum)
  • Following in the footsteps of prior Stereogum-curated tribute albums (see Drive XV: A Tribute to R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People and OKX: A Tribute to Radiohead's OK Computer) comes this track-by-track cover of Björk's Post, which, along with Liars, features contributions from Dirty Projectors ("Hyperballad"), Xiu Xiu ("Isobel"), Atlas Sound ("Headphones"), No Age ("It's Oh So Quiet (Alternate Take)"), and others. This one starts off with the sound of a shotgun loading before sickeningly lurching along at half speed, all distorted and compressed to hell, with Angus Andrews' croon floating over the top. Brings to mind the stuff from the 2004 EP There's Always Room On the Broom and the split with Oneida.
6. Song: The Beat Dies , Artist: The Raveonettes , Album: Lust, Lust, Lust (Vice)
7. Song: The Work In Question is Unbeknowst to Most , Artist: Drekka Conducts the Mt. Gigantic Drone Orchestra , Album: Songs for the End of the World (Silber)
  • Limited run (100!), O.O.P. compilation album of ambient drones, spooky folk, glitch noise and minimalist guitar tones that can now be found on archive.org. Also features Remora, The Land of Nod, Jessica Bailiff, Max Soren, Rivulets, Rollerball, and more, with cover art taken from a bunch of WWII photos snapped by the compiler's great uncle.
8. Song: Track 5 , Artist: Formication , Album: Agnosia (Dark Winter)
9. Song: Eloper , Artist: Scott Tuma , Album: Not for Nobody (Digitalis Industries)

5. Song: Mr. Sandman , Artist: The Four Aces , Album: The Four Aces: Greatest Hits (MCA)
6. Song: Cool People , Artist: Kites , Album: Hallucination Guillotine/Final Worship (Load)
7. Song: Outh9X , Artist: Autechre , Album: Quaristice (Warp)
8. Song: Late Night , Artist: Belong , Album: Colorloss Record (St. Ives)
  • Limited four-track 12"/digitial-only EP of covers from New Orleans ambient/shoegaze/post-rock duo Belong, who added their own vocals. Not that it matters, though, because they're buried too far down in the mix to be recognizable. Case in point: "Late Night", a cover of Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd). The other three cuts follow a similar late '60s UK vibe: "Beeside" (Tintern Abbey), "Girl from New York" (Billy Nicholls), and "My Clown" (July).
9. Song: Ossification , Artist: Nadja , Album: Bodycage (Profound Lore)

9. Song: SonDEremawe , Artist: Autechre , Album: Quaristice (Warp)
10. Song: Intro / Instrumental , Artist: Xasthur , Album: Suicide In Dark Serenity (Bestial Onslaught)
11. Song: Jane Doe , Artist: Converge , Album: Jane Doe (Equal Vision)
  • Great, epic track off of what (I think) is the best Converge album, from the opening salvo of "Concubine/Fault and Fracture", to "Homewrecker" to what sounds like two jaguars fighting on "Phoenix In Flames", to this, the final track, there isn't a dull spot on this album.

5. Song: Granny's House , Artist: Jennifer Gentle , Album: The Midnight Room (Sub Pop)
  • Recorded solo by vocalist/guitarist Marco Fasolo after drummer Alessio Gastaldello left the band, Italian group Jennifer Gentle's The Midnight Room lies in contrast to 2005's Valende - darker, spacier, even creepy at times, channeling the spirit of Syd Barrett and '60s psychedelia.

6. Song: The Jogger , Artist: Pissed Jeans , Album: Hope For Men (Sub Pop)
7. Song: Intermission , Artist: Wolf Eyes , Album: Wolf Eyes (Hanson)

Episode #3 - Eightysixed

1. Song: De Vrachtwagen 1 , Artist: Flat Earth Society , Album: Isms (Ipecac)
  • Belgian progressive big band formed from the ashes of fellow Belgians X-Legged Sally and Fukkeduk. Isms is actually a compilation of tracks from four prior releases, and also features a homage to the Birthday Party in the form of "(Little) King Ink".
2. Song: Woofer Wrecker , Artist: Kid 606 , Album: Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You (Ipecac)
3. Song: Dark Side of the Pink Frog , Artist: When , Album: Merzbow - Frog: Remixed And Revisited (Misanthropic Agenda)
  • From a double CD compilation also featuring Boris, Sunn O))), Fennesz, [Tim] Hecker, Russell Haswell, John Wiese (see below), Gerritt (see Episode #2; also runs the Misanthropic Agenda label), House of Low Culture (a side project of Isis), Merzbow, and others that reworks Merzbow's 2001 album Frog.
4. Song: Well I'll Be a Monkey's Uncle (Christoph de Babalon Remix) , Artist: The Locust , Album: Well I'll Be a Monkey's Uncle (Gold Standard Laboratories)
  • Part of the Lab Remixes series, which also includes The Convocation Of and a !!!/Out Hud split. Features reinterpretations of "Well I'll Be a Monkey's Uncle", from The Locust's 1999 self-titled release whose cover art parodies Queen. Bastard Noise (member John Wiese reared his head in Episode #1 with "Batman Dracula"), Wizards of War, Sinking Body (Neil Burke of Born Against and Men's Recovery Project fame), Kid 606, and I Am Spoonbender also contribute.

5. Song: Hamburger Lady , Artist: Throbbing Gristle , Album: D.O.A.: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle (Mute)
6. Song: Frankie Teardrop , Artist: Suicide , Album: Suicide [First Album] (Bronze)

  • ILX pitts these two tracks against each other in their forums, but they're both classics. As far as scares go, "Frankie Teardrop", a tragic tale of a disenfranchised Vietnam vet, goes the surprise route, while "Hamburger Lady" - based off a true story about a burn unit victim in Portland, Oregon - lurches along (best line: "She is burned from the waist up/...She's burned from the waist down"). Originally on TG's own Industrial Records (yes, they coined the term), D.O.A. got the Mute reissue treatment in 1993. After breaking up, TG members went on to Psychic TV (Genesis P-Orridge), Coil (Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson), and Chris & Cosey (Cosey Fanni Tutti & Chris Carter), although an album of new material slated for an early 2006 release on Mute still hasn't seen the light of day.

7. Song: Walls of Sound , Artist: Throbbing Gristle , Album: D.O.A.: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle (Mute)
8. Song: Ripe (With Decay) , Artist: Nine Inch Nails , Album: The Fragile (Nothing / Interscope)
9. Song: Brains Out , Artist: Error , Album: Error (Epitaph)

  • Members of Error include Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion and Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato, among others. This EP also features a cover of 999's "Homicide".

10. Song: Bride of Frankenstein , Artist: Quintron , Album: The Frog Tape (Skin Graft / Rhinestone)
11. Song: The Final Chapter (In Which the Town Bares Its Teeth) , Artist: The Death of a Party , Album: The Shame of the Sweet (Double Negative)
12. Song: Black Vomit , Artist: Wolf Eyes , Album: Black Vomit (Sub Pop)
